A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Escrow ...
After we had signed all the closing documents we needed to go to the bank to make the wire transfer. We wanted to do it before but the purchasers statement needed to be amended first.
So when we entered the bank and told the officer there what we needed. He said he did not have the signature authority for that amount and that the bank's senior officers were in a conference. I said no problem, we will use another branch. He said no, all the officers of all the area branches were in the same meeting! I asked him which hotel they were meeting at so I could sound the fire alarm there! He smiled and said he had already contacted someone to make the authorization but it would take about twenty minutes. So we went to eat and returned to sign off on the transfer.
On the way to lunch we found the restaurant but there was an automated teller machine with concrete curbs across the parking lot. I told Darla I would like to eat at that restaurant but there was a bank in the way!
After closing and funding we drove home briefly to get a camera and water to drink. Then we drove leasurely around the area the property was in. After a while the phone rang from our realtor. All the attorneys and realtors had been trying to reach us via email but there were so much correspondence between them that our email account was maxed out! Apparently the title company needed final authorization from us to distribute funds to ... everyone!
